In 2010, a group of members gathered to discuss and gauge interest in developing a chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. in Katy, TX. In 2012, the interest was picked up again by interested members and several meetings were held. However, the meetings were stalled due to the high demands of the family lives of those members involved.

 

In 2018, April Inman, Nannette Ray, and Jerinda McDowell, met several times to develop a plan to start the chartering process. The efforts continued and in June of 2019 Tenisha Jacquett joined, which developed the Core Four. These four members began working on the chartering application. The application was submitted September 2019. After receiving the chartering approval during the 1st week of March, a Global Pandemic happened-COVID-19. Despite this obstacle, on June 14, 2020 at 2:00 p.m., 57 determined and dedicated members chartered the Katy Area Alumnae Chapter (KAAC) of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. KAAC is the 1053 Chapter of the Southwest Region and the only chapter in the Southwest Region to charter virtually.

The Katy Area Alumnae Chapter serves the cities of Brookshire, Fulshear, Katy, Sealy, and Simonton.
